Box Score
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University slipped past John Brown (Ark.) 1-0 Monday at Stars Field to advance to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship.
The Stars, ranked No. 7 in NAIA women's soccer, got a late goal from junior Meghan McMahon to improve to 18-1 and book their fifth straight trip to the SAC Tournament title match.
The Stars will take on third-seeded Oklahoma Baptist who knocked off No. 2 seed USAO 4-1 Tuesday.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Bechtold kept the match scoreless in third minute of the match when she stopped Alex Fahr's attempt on goal.
McMahon and senior Rachael O'Brien each had shot on goal in the first half, but John Brown goalkeeper Kristen Morency saved both attempts to keep the score 0-0 at halftime.
Morency stopped shots by McMahon, senior Brenna Skillern and freshman Allison Worsham early in the second half to keep the Stars off the scoreboard.
In the 61st minute, junior goalkeeper Alissa Reed saved a shot by Cheyenne Padgett to keep the match level at 0-0.
McMahon put OCU on top in the 75th minute when she netted her 25th goal of the season. Senior Sheridan Horner intercepted a John Brown pass and found McMahon who beat Morency to give the Stars the 1-0 victory.
Bechtold and Reed split time in goal. Bechtold got the Start and made a save. Reed played the second half and posted a save.
The Stars notched their 15th shutout of the year to tie a school record for most shutouts in a single season. The previous mark of 15 was set in 1999.
The Stars will take on Oklahoma Baptist in the SAC Tournament title match at 6 p.m. Thursday at Stars Field.
