Stars top USAO 5-4 in penalty kicks, advance to SAC Tournament semifinals

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University upset third-ranked USAO 5-4 in penalty kicks Saturday at Drover Pitch to advance to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.
The Stars got nine saves from junior goalkeeper Joe Shulberg, of Huntingdon, England, including two key stops in the penalty shootout to improve to 8-6-4 on the season.
Senior David Kamali and sophomores Ethan Berney and Sam Stulberg all had shots on goal in the first half, but USAO goalkeeper Bryan Byars saved all three attempts to keep the Stars off the scoreboard.
Shulberg made saves in the 17th, 23rd and 57th minutes to keep the match scoreless.
USAO jumped on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute when Niall Burley found Scott Parkinson who beat Shulberg to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Drovers.
Junior Trevor Harmon pulled the Stars even in the 75th minute when he beat Byars and scored his sixth goal of the season.
Shulberg made three saves in the final 10 minutes of regulation and three more in overtime to send the 1-1 match to penalty kicks.
Berney, Harmon, Stulberg, Nathan Doll and Kieran McLachlan converted on their penalty attempts to give OCU a 5-4 lead in the shootout. Shulberg saved Luka Rasovic's kick to push the Stars past the Drovers 5-4.
The Stars advance to take on fifth-seeded John Brown (Ark.) at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alumni Field in Siloam Springs, Ark.
