Stars rock Central Christian 133-24

OCU break three school records en route to 133-24 victory

Autumn Huffman tied a school record with 12 steals against Central Christian.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University pummeled Central Christian (Kan.) 133-24 Saturday in game No. 2 of the Oklahoma Baptist Holiday Classic at the Noble Complex.
The Stars, ranked No. 10 in NAIA Division I, broke school records for fewest points allowed in a half, 3-point field-goal attempts and made 3-pointers in the 109-point blowout and improved to 5-2 on the season.
OCU's hot shooting continued as the Stars opened the game on 33-1 run. OCU hit 10 3-point jumpers in the first half. Junior Kayla MacKenzie capped the scoring with a layup at the 11:12 mark.
The Stars turned up the defensive pressure in the first half, forcing 32 Central Christian turnovers. OCU scored 53 points off turnovers in the half.
Senior Lauren Gober buried four 3-pointers and put up 24 points in the first half, while fellow senior Jessica Lankston hit four triples of her own and tallied 16 first-half points.
OCU shot 52 percent from the floor and 47 percent from behind the 3-point line to take a commanding 73-6 lead at halftime. The Stars were four points shy of the school record for points scored in a half. OCU scored 77 against Grand Canyon (Ariz.) on Nov. 24, 1989.
The Stars' defense held the Lady Tigers to just six points in the first half breaking the OCU record for fewest points allowed in a half. The previous mark of seven was set against Baptist Bible (Mo.) on Nov. 13, 2010.
Autumn Huffman scored back-to-back buckets in the paint and Gober followed with a 3-point jumper to send the Stars on a 20-2 run to start the second half. Gober fueled the run with eight points and gave OCU a 93-8 lead with 14:38 remaining in the game.
OCU maintained its lead down the stretch and led by as many as 108 points to take the 133-24 victory. The Stars finished the game two points behind the school record for largest margin of victory. OCU defeated Baptist Bible by 112 points on Nov. 13, 2010.
The Stars hit 18-of-40 from 3-point range on the game to break school records for 3-point attempts and 3-pointers made in a single game. The previous records of 38 3-point attempts and 16 made 3-pointers were set against Paul Quinn (Texas) on Nov. 15, 2003.
The Stars scored 76 points off turnovers and 35 second-chance points on the game. OCU outscored Central Christian 46-10 in the paint.
Gober posted her second straight double-double with a game-high 34 points and 12 rebounds. The senior forward also added six assists and five steals.
Lankston followed with 22 points, MacKenzie posted 19 points, Ravven Brown notched 15 points and five assists and Katie Hall grabbed 12 rebounds.
Huffman finished one rebound short of a triple-double with 12 steals, 11 points and nine boards. The junior from Midwest City, Okla., tied the OCU record for most steals in a game set by Kesha Watson against Doane (Neb.) on Nov. 7, 2003.
OCU will return to action against College of the Ozarks (Mo.) at 6 p.m. Dec. 21 at Abe Lemons Arena.
