Stars maul Northwood 102-32

Every OCU player scored against the Knights to help the Stars improve to 4-2

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University smashed Northwood (Texas) 102-32 in game No. 1 of the Oklahoma Baptist Holiday Classic Friday at the Noble Complex.
OCU, ranked No. 10 in NAIA Division I, got double-doubles from seniors Lauren Gober and Katie Hall and hit the century mark for the first time this season to improve to 4-2 overall. The Stars scored 100 points or more six times a season ago.
The Stars opened the game on fire from 3-point range and rushed out to an 18-1 lead with 13:31 left on the clock. Gober led the charge hitting three of her first five 3-point attempts.OCU shot a scorching 66 percent from behind the 3-point line in the half.
Tierra Dixon gave Northwood its first field goal of the game at the 12:07 mark to make the score 20-3.
Jessica Lankston answered with a 3-point bucket to send OCU on a 19-0 run and make the score 39-3 with 5:51 left in the half. Kayla MacKenzie scored seven points and Lankston added six to fuel the run.
OCU finished the half on a 19-2 run to stretch its lead to 50. The Stars forced 19 turnovers and shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half.
OCU held Northwood to just 2-of-14 shooting from the floor and took a 58-8 lead to the locker room at halftime. The OCU record for fewest points allowed in a half is seven, set against Baptist Bible (Mo.) on Nov. 13, 2010 at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars started the second half with back-to-back layups off Northwood turnovers. OCU ran off a 22-7 run to take an 80-15 lead at the 13:45 mark. MacKenize and Lankston capped the run with back-to-back 3-pointers.
Clara Russell picked off a Northwood pass and found Autumn Huffman for a layup in transition to give OCU 100 points with 2:02 remaining.
OCU lead by as many as 76 in the second half and came away with the 102-32 victory.
The Stars' defense held the Knights to 21 percent shooting from the field and forced 33 Northwood turnovers on the game. OCU outrebounded Northwood 59-29.
Gober led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds. MacKenzie followed with 20 points and four steals. Gober and MacKenzie combined to hit 9-of-18 3-point jumpers.
Hall posted 17 points and 10 rebounds and Huffman notched 13 points and five rebounds. Cara Pugh pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and Ravven Brown passed out a game-high eight assists.
The Stars will return to action in game No. 2 of the OBU Holliday Classic against Central Christian (Kan.) at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Noble Complex in Shawnee, Okla.
