OCU in Oklahoma Baptist Classic women's basketball preview

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University takes on Northwood (Texas) and Central Christian (Kan.) in the Oklahoma Baptist Holliday Classic.
 
ABOUT THE STARS: The 10th-ranked Stars pounded Park (Mo.) 90-36 in their last time out to improve to 3-2. OCU was led by senior Lauren Gober. The forward from Newcastle, Okla., posted 26 points and seven boards on 60 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line and 71 percent shoot from the floor. Gober is ranked fourth in NAIA Division I in made 3-point field goals per game (3.6) and 16th in total made 3-pointers (18).
Katie Hall, of Hazelton, Idaho, posted 14 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes against the Pirates. The senior center went 7-for-7 from the field on the game to add to her team-high 0.65 field goal percentage. Hall also leads OCU in rebounding with 7.6 boards per outing.
Guard Ravven Brown chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists against Park. The senior from Duluth, Georgia, shoot 100 percent from the free throw line on the game. On the season, Brown is shooting 90 percent from the charity stripe and is ranked 10th in NAIA Division I in free-throw percentage.
OCU is ranked fourth in NAIA Division I in turnover margin (10.8), fifth in assist/turnover ratio (1.24) and 11th in field goal percentage (0.45). To see how the Stars stack up against the rest of the NAIA, Click here.
The Stars, ranked No. 10 in the NAIA preseason top-25 poll, have appeared in 154 consecutive NAIA Division I polls. OCU was picked to finish third in the Sooner Athletic Conference by league coaches.
 
ABOUT THE KNIGHTS: Northwood enters the tournament with a record of 1-4. The Knights fell to Stephen F. Austin State 80-28 Wednesday and narrowly lost to Bacone 50-48 on Nov. 15.
Northwood is led by Lakeisha Blanson. The 5-foot-9 forward scored 17 points against Bacone and leads the team with 14.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
 
ABOUT THE LADY TIGERS: The 1-7 Lady Tigers fell to Hillsdale Baptist 72-63 on Nov. 17. Central Christian is ranked 17th in NAIA Division II in total steals (85) and total offensive rebounds (315).
The Lady Tigers are led by Brooke Rhodes. The 5-foot-9 guard is the team leader in points (15.5), rebounds (8.8) and steals (1.71) per game.
 
ABOUT THE COACHES: Latricia Trammell is in the midst of her first season as head coach of the Stars. Trammell returns to OCU after serving as Western State (Colo.) head coach the past five seasons. At Western State, Trammell had 13 all-RMAC selections, including the RMAC West Division freshman of the year and RMAC player of the year. Trammell was assistant coach at OCU from 2005-07. As an assistant at OCU, Trammell mentored the Stars' first WNBA draftee, Mariam Sy of the Washington Mystics, 10 all-conference choices, the SAC player of the year, SAC newcomer of the year and four all-Americans. Trammell also spent time as head coach at Midwest City High School and Bill Ryan High School (Texas).
Northwood is coach by Michael Wells and assisted by Renotta Edwards.
Robert Lancaster enters his second season as head coach of Central Christian. Lancaster led the Lady Tigers to a 6-24 record a season ago. The Blanchard, Okla., native coached high school basketball in Colorado and Oklahoma before coaching at Central Christian.
