Stars top Wayland Baptist 2-0, advance to SAC Tournament semifinals

OCU posted its 14th shutout of the season against Wayland Baptist

Hollis St. John scored her first goal of the season against Wayland Baptist.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped Wayland Baptist (Texas) 2-0 at Stars Field Tuesday to advance to the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Stars blanked the Pioneers to improve to 17-1 overall and notch their 14th shutout of the season.
OCU jumped on the scoreboard in the seventh minute when junior Meghan McMahon sent a pass into the box that found Hollis St. John. The senior midfielder took the pass and netted her first goal of the season to make the score 1-0 in favor of the Stars.
OCU struck again in the 16th minute when freshman Allison Worsham took a pass from St. John and scored from the top of the penalty area to give the Stars a 2-0 lead.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Bechtold saved Mary Achebo-Totty's shot attempt in the 38th minute to keep Wayland Baptist off the scoreboard.
The Stars' defense shut down Wayland Baptist in the second half, only allowing two shots by the Pioneers. OCU outshot Wayland Baptist 24-7 on the match.
The Stars advance to take on fifth-seeded John Brown (Ark.) at 2 p.m. Monday at Stars Field.
