Stars claim SAC regular-season title

OCU got past John Brown 3-0 to improve to 16-1 overall and 7-1 in SAC play

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University defeated John Brown (Ark.) 3-0 Saturday at Alumni Field to clinch its third straight Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season title.
The Stars, ranked No. 9 in NAIA women's soccer, posted their 13th shutout and improved to 16-1 overall and 7-1 in SAC play. The Stars will enter the SAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will have home-field advantage throughout the tournament.
OCU jumped on the scoreboard in the 38th minute when sophomore Allie Glazner, of Edmond, Okla., took a corner kick from the left side and scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
In the 59th minute, junior Meghan McMahon, of Oklahoma City, beat John Brown goalkeeper Kristen Morency to score her 11th goal of the year and make the score 2-0 in favor of the Stars.
McMahon capped the scoring in the 62nd minute when she beat Morency for her 23rd goal of season to give OCU the 3-0 victory.
Junior goalkeepers Ashley Bechtold and Alissa Reed split time between the posts. Bechtold, of Oklahoma City, got the start and played the first half. Reed, of Fort Worth, Texas, played the second half and made one save.
The Stars will likely host Wayland Baptist (Texas) in the first round of the SAC Tournament Friday at Stars Field.
