Stars cruise past Wayland Baptist 3-0

OCU's defense pitched its 11th shutout of the season against the Pioneers

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blanked Wayland Baptist (Texas) 3-0 Saturday at Stars Field.
OCU, ranked No. 8 in NAIA women's soccer, got goals from sophomore Allie Glazner, of Edmond, Okla., senior Sheridan Horner, of Choctaw, Okla., and junior Meghan McMahon, of Oklahoma City, and improves to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Stars jumped on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute when McMahon corralled a loose ball and beat two Pioneer defenders to score her SAC-leading 18th goal of the season and make the score 1-0.
OCU doubled its lead in the 46th minute when Horner picked up a ball that deflected off a defender and beat Wayland Baptist goalkeeper Courtney Chambers to make the score 2-0.
In the 47th minute, Glazner took a shot from the deep-left side of the field and beat Chambers to score her fourth goal of the season and give the Stars the 3-0 victory.
Junior goalkeepers Ashley Bechtold, of Oklahoma City, and Alissa Reed, of Fort Worth, Texas, split time between the posts. Bechtold got the start and Reed played the second half.
The OCU defense allowed just two shots by Wayland Baptist and earned its 11th shutout of the season. The Stars have allowed only five goals this season.
OCU outshot Wayland Baptist 29-2 on the match.
The Stars will return to action against St. Gregory's at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fr. Victor Roberts Field in Shawnee, Okla.
