Mid-America Christian upsets OCU 2-1

The Stars dropped their first match of the season at Mid-America Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling 2-1 to Mid-America Christian in overtime at Evangel Field.
With the loss the Stars, ranked No. 4 in NAIA women's soccer, move to 8-1 on the season and 1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Stars survived a scare in the 30th minute when Mid-America's Kassie Byrd missed a penalty kick to keep the score at 0-0.
OCU put six shots on goal in the first half, but all six were turned away by Mid-America goalkeeper Melissa Dobie to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
Mid-America got on the scoreboard in the 51st minute when Byrd beat junior goalkeeper Alissa Reed to make the score 1-0.
Sophomore Allie Glazner evened the score at 1-1 in the 58th minute when she beat Dobie to score her third goal of the season.
In the final 10 seconds of the second half, senior Sheridan Horner saw her shot hit the goalpost, and the match went to overtime.
Mid-America's Chelsea Swisher beat junior goalkeeper Ashley Bechtold in the 97th minute to give the Lady Evangels the 2-1 victory.
Bechtold and Reed split time between the posts. Bechtold got the start and made two saves. Reed played the second half and made one save in 45 minutes of work.
The Stars will return to action against Western State (Colo.) at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stars Field.
