OCU downs Houston-Victoria 3-1 in home opener

Stars move to 2-2-2 on season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University men's soccer picked up its second straight win Sunday, defeating Houston-Victoria 3-1 in the home opener at Stars Field.
With the win, the Stars moved to 2-2-2 on the season.
OCU took an early 1-0 lead in the second minute when Houston-Victoria's Nigel Francis misplayed a shot from freshman Adam Black in to the net for an own goal.
The Stars scored again in the 38th minute when junior Ryan Hunter found the back of the net on a ball played in by junior Preston Cox to make the score 2-0.
Houston-Victoria cut into the lead in the 65th minute when Adrian Mendoza beat sophomore goalkeeper Joe Shulberg to score an unassisted goal and make the score 2-1.
OCU put the game on ice in the 83rd minute when freshman Kieran McLachlan took a pass from sophomore Jimmy Irwin and beat the goalkeeper to make the final score 3-1.
The Stars outshot Houston-Victoria 17-6 and played stout defense, only allowing one shot on goal.
OCU will open Sooner Athletic Conference play against Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stars Field.
