OCU falls 3-0 to William Carey

Third-ranked William Carey shuts out 10th-ranked Stars on five hits

Tori Joyner had two of OCU's five hits Thursday against William Carey.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – William Carey (Miss.) prevailed 3-0 over Oklahoma City University in a matchup of top 10-ranked NAIA softball programs Thursday at Fail Field in the William Carey Invitational.
No. 10-ranked OCU mustered five hits and two other base runners against third-ranked William Carey. The Stars went to 15-4 on the year.
Anna Ard picked up the win, fanning 11 in seven innings. Lily LaVelle took the loss after striking out five in six innings.
In the fourth, Nathalie Timmermans' single put runners on first and third base for OCU with none out. Ard responded with two strikeouts and got a groundout to end the Stars threat.
Tori Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3, while Timmermans, a junior from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, had a base hit and two walks for the Stars. LaVelle and LeeAnn Lopez each had singles for OCU.
OCU takes on Louisiana College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday in Pineville, La.
