THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University aims to maintain its half-game lead in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball standings in a league tilt at Oklahoma Baptist.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU posted an 83-50 romp over St. Gregory's on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (21-2, 16-2 SAC) took advantage of 24 St. Gregory's turnovers and scored 25 points off them.
Donica Cosby, a 5-foot-8 senior from Coldwater, Miss., led OCU with 18 points. She hit 7 of 11 shots from the field. Cosby, last season's SAC newcomer of the year, averages 13.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.00 steals per contest.
Lauren Gober, a 6-2 sophomore from Newcastle, Okla., recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds and three steals for her first double-double of the season. Gober made up for 2-for-10 shooting from the field by sinking 6 of 8 free throws. Gober tops the Stars with 13.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.13 steals a game. Starr Fairbanks, a 6-2 senior from Cincinnati, and Breezy Martin, a 5-11 senior from Oklahoma City, each scored eight points.
OCU have been ranked among the team leaders in NAIA Division I in field-goal percentage, average victory margin, assists per game, points per game, turnover margin and assist-to-turnover ratio. To see where OCU stacks up statistically in the NAIA, click here.
The Stars were second in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. SAC coaches placed OCU as the heavy favorite to win the league title. OCU has won or shared the SAC regular-season crown 11 times. Five-time national champion OCU entered the season tied for the most wins in NAIA women's basketball since 2000-01.
OCU leads the all-time series against Oklahoma Baptist 40-21. The Stars prevailed 93-59 on Jan. 20 at Abe Lemons Arena. Cosby spearheaded OCU with 19 points and five assists.
ABOUT THE LADY BISON: Oklahoma Baptist came from behind to win 65-56 over Mid-America Christian on Thursday in Shawnee, Okla. Oklahoma Baptist (10-16, 8-10 SAC) erased a 10-point deficit using a 14-0 second-half run.
Bridget Reynolds, a 5-9 junior, posted 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Reynolds averages 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. Gabriell Mattox, a 5-11 senior, supplied 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Mattox compiles 18.0 points and 7.4 rebounds a game.
SAC coaches predicted Oklahoma Baptist would finish second in the league in the preseason.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has posted a stellar 171-28 record in his sixth season at OCU and a 473-147 record overall in his 21st season as a head coach. Edmisson, a two-time SAC coach of the year, has led the Stars to SAC regular-season championships three times and four SAC Tournament titles. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA from OCU, Mariam Sy. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
John McCullough has gone 255-111 record in his 11th season as Oklahoma Baptist coach, 290-180 overall as a head coach. McCullough has led Oklahoma Baptist to 10 consecutive national-tournament appearances.
