OCU drubs USAO 98-44 on the road

Stars had five players score in double figures in win

Lauren Gober posted 21 points and 11 rebounds against USAO.
CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University women's basketball dropped USAO 98-44 Thursday at USAO Fieldhouse.
The Stars, ranked third in NAIA Division I, were two points shy of hitting the century mark for the third time this season. OCU improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU had five players score in double figures in the 98-44 blowout, led by junior Lauren Gober with 21 and senior Dietra Caldwell with 20.
The Stars ran out to a 13-3 lead after senior Taylor Booze buried a 3-pointer to start the game.
At the 9:03 mark of the first half OCU embarked on a 17-2 run fueled by Gober who knocked down a pair of 3-point jumpers. The Stars lead was 39-14 with just under three minutes to play in the half.
OCU lead by as many as 25 in the first half and took a 43-19 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Stars shot 42 percent from the floor and forced 16 USAO turnovers in the half.
The Stars maintained their lead in the second half and had a 60-34 lead at the 11:13 mark. From that point OCU finished the game on a 38-10 run to end the game.
Gober pulled down 11 rebounds to go along with a team-high 21 points while shooting 50 percent from 3-point distance. Caldwell also shot 50 percent from 3-point land and posted 20 points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore Kayla MacKenzie added 16 points followed by Booze and senior Tiffany Goldwire with 11. Goldwire also pulled down seven rebounds.
The Stars defense forced 28 total turnovers and held USAO to 26 percent shooting from the floor and from behind the 3-point line. Eight of the nine players on the OCU roster recorded at least one steal.
OCU shot 39 percent from the field in the contest and outrebounded USAO 66-36.
The Stars will continue SAC play as they head home to face 11th-ranked Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
