OCU suffers season ending 2-1 loss to Oklahoma Baptist

Stars eliminated from the SAC tournament in the first round after double overtime loss

Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University men's soccer fell 2-1 in double overtime to Oklahoma Baptist Friday in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Stars Field.
The loss ended the Star's season and moved their record to 7-6-4 overall.
OCU played stiff defense in the first half, but was only able to get one shot on goal making the halftime score 0-0.
OCU started the scoring in the 53rd minute when the Stars were given a penalty kick. Sophomore Adam Black took advantage and beat OBU goalkeeper Marcus Oliveira to score his 14th goal of the season and make the score 1-0.
OBU was given a penalty kick of its own and a chance to tie the match in the 74th minute. Pedro Pereira took the kick and beat sophomore goalkeeper Jalen Howard to make the score 1-1.
OCU took 10 shots in the second half, but was unable to break the 1-1 tie and the match went to overtime.
OBU outshot the Stars 4-0 in the first overtime period, but the OCU defense was able to send the match into double overtime.
In the second overtime period Yalli Oliveira found Victor Costa who scored the game winning goal in the 117 minute to make the final score 2-1.
Howard made his fifth start of the season, allowed two goals and made seven saves in 117 minutes of actions.
OCU seniors Francis Malalou and Steven Short played in their final match for the Stars. Malalou, a forward from Gabon, recorded four shot on the match, and played in 36 matches, scored seven goals, passed out one assist and recorded 15 points in his OCU career.
Short, a defender from Durban, South Africa, played in 57 matches, scored seven goals, passed out 26 assists and tallied 40 points in his OCU career.
The two combine to help win 33 matches for the Stars.
