SHREVEPORT, La. – The 25th rankend Oklahoma City University women's soccer team played to an 8-1 victory over Belhaven (Miss.) on Monday to bring its season record to 2-0.
Three OCU women netted more than one goal in the contest, with the scoring attack being directed by freshman Meghan McMahon, from Oklahoma City. McMahon fired three shots, all of which found their target and picked up her first hat trick of her collegiate career.
After Belhaven scored a quick goal in the first minute of play, OCU relied on their youth to lead the charge. Along with McMahon's hot foot, she was joined by freshman Blerta Rashica, from Orebro, Sweden, who netted a pair of first half goals. Rashica was assisted by Alex Miley and Brenna Skillern in her scoring opportunities.
Ariel Bayatfar, freshman from Ada, Okla., also added two goals in the match. Courtney Worsham, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., added a goal to round out the scoring for the Stars. A pair of assists was credited to Malin Andersson, a senior from Huskvarna, Sweden. Other assists went to Sheridan Horner, a sophomore from Choctaw, Okla., and Gianna Puskarich, a freshman from Fairview, Texas.
The Stars return to the field this weekend in the Central Oklahoma Classic in Edmond, Okla., with their first match of the tournament taking place Friday at 2 p.m. against Midwestern State (Texas).
