CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Oklahoma City University women opened up the Sooner Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-0 win over the University of Science of Arts of Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon at Drover Field.
The Stars (6-2, 1-0) have now garnered four consecutive wins. Sooner Athletic Conference defensive player of the week Brittany Tibbs has allowed just one goal in her last 360 minutes clocked.
OCU started the scoring in the 19th minute on a shot by Blerta Rashica, a freshman from Orebro, Sweden. Rashica was assisted on the score by Malin Andersson, senior from Huskvarna, Sweden.
The 1-0 score held in the contest until the 56th minute of play. Andersson notched her second assist in the match and Ariel Bayatfar, freshman from Ada, Okla., drove in for the goal.
“I was especially pleased for Ariel Bayatfar to get her first SAC goal,” coach Brian Harvey remarked after the game.
Two minutes later, in the 58th minute, Meghan McMahon added an unassisted goal to give the Stars the 3-0 advantage.
Both the Drovers and the Stars managed 12 shots apiece in the match, but Tibbs' four saves along with some fancy footwork and perfect passes by the OCU offense proved to be the difference in the game.
“It was a tremendous team effort, and the ladies are playing very well at the moment,” Harvey said. “We just keep on doing what we're doing, but it's a great start to the Sooner Athletic Conference season.”
Up next for OCU is playing host to Rogers State at 5 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Stars Field.
