OCU men knock off eighth-ranked USAO in 2-0 win

Both Stars goals come in final 15 minutes of play

Francis Malalou netted his fourth goal of the season on Tuesday.

CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Oklahoma City University men reigned victorious over eighth-ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon at Drover Field, scoring the 2-0 decision over the previously unbeaten Drovers.

The game was knotted at 0-0 until the 74th minute when Francis Malalou, a junior from Gabon, Africa, grabbed the eventual game-winning goal after an assist from Steven Short.

Malalou came into the game in the 65th minute and provided an immediate offensive spark for the Stars.

“Francis really came in and he changed the face of the game,” OCU coach Brian Harvey said. “He really brought a lot of energy, a lot of pace, and he really turned the game around for us in the second half.”

Five minutes later, Malalou was driving for another score when he was fouled, and a penalty kick ensued. John Dill, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., booted the ball in for OCU's second goal of the match.

USAO held the shooting advantage 15-10 in the contest, but OCU goalkeeper Andy Fitzpatrick, a senior from Kansas City, Mo., maintained the shutout. Fitzpatrick collected six saves on the day.

“It's a good win for the boys. Historically, we don't do too well when we come to Chickasha, but we did very well here today,” Harvey said. “To come and beat last year's Sooner Athletic Conference champions, the eighth team in the nation, it was a very good day at the office.”

OCU will next be in action at Stars Field against Rogers State at 7 p.m. on Oct. 5.
