Stars stop Texas Wesleyan men 1-0

Coach Brian Harvey pleased with "well-fought victory"

The OCU coach saw both the men and women notch shutouts on Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University men's soccer team got by Texas Wesleyan with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at Stars Field.

The Stars (4-2) turned in an overall team effort to make coach Brian Harvey proud of the performance.

“We used 14 players and I thought all 14 players gave a great contribution, they contributed very well,” Harvey said.

The lone goal of the match came in the 19th minute of play off the foot of Drew Hall, a freshman from Edmond, Okla. John Dill, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., got the assist after getting to a rebound off a shot saved by the Texas Wesleyan keeper. Dill then distributed it to Hall for the score.

Texas Wesleyan took a 2-1 victory in 2009 over the Stars, raising the stakes on OCU's final non-conference game of the 2010 season.

“This is a team that beat us last season in Fort Worth, so there was a lot at stake, a lot of pride, and I think the boys did very well,” Harvey said. “They scored an early goal, and it was one of those days where we played pretty football first half, and then the second half we grind out the result, so I was quite pleased.”

This win gives goalkeeper Andy Fitzpatrick, a senior from Kansas City, Mo., his third shutout of the season and 18th of his OCU career.

OCU will next take the field as they open up Sooner Athletic Conference play on the road at USAO in Chickasha, Okla., on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
