Belhaven nabs 3-1 win over OCU men's soccer

Stars strike first, but Belhaven mounts late charge

John Dill scored his second goal of the season Friday.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The 24th-ranked Oklahoma City University men's soccer team faced its first taste of defeat in the 2010 season 3-1 to Belhaven (Miss.) on Friday at Alumni Field in the John Brown Classic.

The Stars (3-1) became just the second team to score on the undefeated Blazers this season. John Dill, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., became the first to strike in the match on an unassisted goal in the 37th minute of play.

OCU maintained the 1-0 lead for 37 minutes until Guilherme Brandao scored for Belhaven in the 71st minute. Brandao quickly netted his second goal of the match in the 75th minute. The third and final Blazers goal came with only 63 seconds remaining in the match.

Even in defeat, the Stars outshot the Blazers 14-11. Dill led the OCU with four shots and Drew Hall, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., added three shots. However, the accurate legs of the opponents connected on three of their seven shots on goal.

OCU finishes off its four-game road trek Saturday in the John Brown Classic against Lyon (Ark.) at 12:30 p.m.
