THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University aims to post its 12th consecutive 25-win season as the Stars visit Sooner Athletic Conference rival Wayland Baptist (Texas).
Wayland Baptist will recognize its all-decade team at halftime of the contest.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU blew away USAO 95-58 on Monday night at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (24-3, 19-1 Sooner Athletic Conference) took advantage of USAO's 39.6 percent shooting from the field and 28 turnovers.
Laura Duncan, a 5-foot-8 senior from Edmond, Okla., led the way with a season-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Duncan has averaged 7.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.63 steals this season. She stands 39 points shy of scoring 1,000 for her three-year OCU career.
Lauren Gober, a 6-1 freshman from Newcastle, Okla., chipped in 12 points and five rebounds. Gober records 9.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.44 steals a game. Starr Fairbanks, a 6-2 junior from Cincinnati, added 12 points and four rebounds. Fairbanks boasts of averages of 12.5 points and 4.3 rebounds a game. Fairbanks has shot 57.7 percent from the field this season to rank eighth in NAIA Division I.
As a team, OCU ranks in the top 10 nationally in field-goal percentage (46.2), assists (18.0 a game), average margin of victory (19.0), turnover margin (plus-6.2 a game) and points per game (77.5).
The Stars moved to sixth in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. OCU was picked to finish second in the conference in the preseason. The Stars entered this season tied for the most wins of any women's basketball program in the nation over the past nine years.
OCU has a 26-18 record against Wayland Baptist. OCU won for the 20th time in 21 tries against Wayland 71-58 on Jan. 4 at Abe Lemons Arena. Donica Cosby became the first Star in four years to top 30 points as she had 32.
ABOUT THE FLYING QUEENS: Wayland Baptist fell 73-69 in overtime to John Brown (Ark.) on Saturday in Siloam Springs, Ark. Wayland (16-10, 11-8 SAC) made 7 of 17 free throws, while John Brown shot 37-of-51 from the foul line.
Erika Raymond, a 5-11 sophomore, poured in a career-high 30 points and tied the school record with seven 3-pointers. Raymond averages 12.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.67 steals a game. Alex Williams, a 5-11 sophomore, totaled 10 points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots. Williams puts together 8.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.26 steals and 1.44 blocks.
SAC coaches picked Wayland Baptist to finish fifth in the conference during the preseason.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has posted a stellar 142-25 record in his fifth season at OCU and a 444-144 record overall in his 20th season as a head coach. Edmisson has led the Stars to SAC regular-season championships twice and the SAC Tournament title three times. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA from OCU, Mariam Sy. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Tory Bryant has guided Wayland Baptist to a 53-39 record in his third season with the Queens. Bryant led Lubbock Trinity Christian High School (Texas) to a 96-19 record and two state championships.
