AMARILLO, Texas – Oklahoma City University took three men's wrestling dual wins Saturday, knocking off Bacone 24-12, Wayland Baptist (Texas) 45-4 and York (Neb.) 38-10 at the Courts of Amarillo.
The Stars, ranked 12th in the NAIA, improved to 7-3 in duals this season.
Bacone took a 9-0 lead in that dual before OCU reeled off seven consecutive wins. The Stars' Hunter Muskrat edged Blake Nichols 2-0 at 141 pounds to start the rally.
At 149, Ruben Perez nipped William DeYoung 8-6 for OCU. Cameron Ream highlighted OCU's run with a pin over Eddie Brown in 1:49 at 157.
Heath Boyd used a 6-5 win over Guadalupe Silas to put OCU up 15-9 in the dual. OCU's Jake Mabry added a 7-1 win over Nate Lemings at 197 before Bacone's Dyllan Snavely won the 285-pound bout.
Against Wayland Baptist, Robert Turrentine started OCU off with a 12-0 victory over Richard Leal at 125. Stanley Lattimore at 285 and Josh Stewart at 157 each had pins for the Stars. Lattimore finished off Francisco Deleon in 3:30, and Stewart defeated Aaron Rios in 3:24.
The Stars also benefited from four forfeits by Wayland Baptist.
Against York, Perez and Ream stuck falls. Perez pinned Bryan Williams at 149 in 2:35, and Ream ended his match against Kyle Wichman in 45 seconds. Mabry added a 17-0 technical-fall win over Quinnell Willingham at 197.
The Stars meet Central Oklahoma, ranked 11th in NCAA Division II, at 7 p.m. Thursday in Edmond, Okla.
