Stars steamroll Avila 103-42

OCU tops 100 points for the second time in its 4-0 start

Lauren Gober recorded 21 points, four rebounds and two steals Friday.

ATCHISON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University stomped Avila (Mo.) 103-42 on Friday at Ralph Nolan Gymnasium in the Benedictine Classic.

Lauren Gober, a sophomore from Newcastle, Okla., topped five Stars in double-figure scoring with 21 points. Unbeaten OCU, ranked third in NAIA Division I women's basketball, surpassed 100 points for the second time in its four wins this season.

Gober dropped in six 3-pointers, hitting 6-of-8 from 3-point range and 7 of 11 shots from the field overall.

Taylor Booze, a junior from Duncanville, Texas, and Kayla MacKenzie, a freshman from Peoria, Ariz., each scored 13 points and sank three treys. Emily Davis added 10 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Starr Fairbanks chipped in 10 points and six rebounds for the Stars.

OCU buried 14 of 27 3-point attempts and knocked in 8-of-11 on 3s in the second half.

Gober fired in two treys during the Stars' 12-0 run to build a 38-16 first-half advantage. Desiree Jeffries had a bucket to ignite the run. Gober sandwiched her 3s around Tiffany Goldwire's transition basket. Gober's 3-pointer capped the run with 1:40 left in the period.

Avila went scoreless for 6:21 between the first and second halves. OCU tallied 30 unanswered points during that stretch to build a 58-21 advantage.

Gober hit a 3-pointer, then Booze had a 3 to end the first period. Donica Cosby chipped in two free throws and a lay-in, while Breezy Martin contributed two free throws and a putback. Cosby's layup put the Stars ahead 58-21 with 15:22 left in the game.
OCU built advantages of 54-5 in bench points and 34-4 in points off turnovers.

The Stars face host Benedictine (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Atchison, Kan.
