OCU routs Wayland Baptist 48-6

Stars notch four pins Thursday

Jake Mabry pinned Francisco DeLeon of Wayland Baptist (Texas) in 4:01 on Thursday.
PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University crushed Wayland Baptist (Texas) 48-6 on Thursday at the Hutcherson Center.
Jake Mabry, Josh Stewart, Kenny Wheeler and Sterling Wright nailed pins for the Stars, ranked 16th in NAIA men's wrestling. OCU improved to 2-0 in duals.
Mabry, a senior from Gig Harbor, Wash., posted his second pin in as many nights in 4:01. Stewart, a sophomore from Muskogee, Okla., stuck the fall in 1:30 in his dual debut for OCU.
Wheeler, a sophomore from Ponca City, Okla., recorded his second career pin in 2:06. Wright, a freshman from Norman, Okla., responded after losing by technical fall Wednesday with a fall in 6:33.
Robert Turrentine, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., edged Luis Garcia 12-10 in overtime at 125 for OCU. The Stars' Heath Boyd, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., nipped Jacob Bevington 7-5 in overtime at 165.
OCU competes next in the Knox Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday in Galesburg, Ill.
