OCU's Gang grabs hat trick in 4-3 win

Gang records third hat trick of Stars career

Alex Gang has a team-high 16 points for OCU after Saturday's hat trick.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University men got the 4-3 win over Mid-America Christian on Saturday night at Stars Field.

The OCU (6-3, 2-1) offense featured a hat trick by all-American Alex Gang, a senior from Seoul, South Korea. This marks Gang's third hat trick in his OCU career.

Alex Gang has had a slow start, but it's good to see him score,” coach Billy Martin said. “I think a lot of teams had been keying on him because he had such a good season last year. All the boys are glad to see him score.”

The Stars started with a one goal deficit after giving up an own goal to Mid-America in the 29th minute of play. OCU roared back to even the tally at 1-1 going into halftime on the first of Gang's three goals. Steven Short, a junior from Durban, South Africa, was credited for the assist on the goal.

OCU opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal by Francis Malalou in the 51st minute. Malalou, a junior from Gabon, Africa, was also assisted by Short on the score.

A quick exchange of scoring began when Gang grabbed his second goal of the match in the 62nd minute. Stuart Hilton, a senior from Liverpool, England, assisted on the high ball that Gang headed in for the score. Minutes later, Mid-America cut into the OCU lead with a goal of their own in the 67th minute of play.

However, Gang answered back for his third goal of the game in the 73rd minute to complete the hat trick. John Dill, a senior from Broken Arrow, kicked the ball in play after a Mid-America foul. Gang grabbed the ball mid-air and headed it in to get the goal.

The Evangels finished off the game scoring with a strike in the 89th minute, but could not catch the Stars.

OCU will next travel to John Brown (Ark.) for a match in Siloam Springs, Ark. at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
