OCU falls short in 1-0 bout with Rogers State

The Stars outshot the Hillcats 13-4 in the loss

Sophomore Ryan Hunter had three shots in the match, two on-goal.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University men's soccer team lost a tight 1-0 battle with Rogers State on Tuesday at Stars Field.

OCU (5-3, 1-1) and Rogers State battled back-and-forth through the first half, taking a combined four shots in the first 45 minutes of play. But the second half action heated up, with the Stars playing the role of aggressor and adding 10 more shots to their game tally.

The Stars held the 13-4 shot advantage in the match, with a trio of underclassmen leading the OCU offensive efforts. Freshmen Drew Hall, from Edmond, Okla., and Kyle Davies, from Durban, South Africa, had three shots apiece in the match. Ryan Hunter, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., also contributed three shots for OCU.

It was to no avail, however, when Steven Baker scored for the Hillcats in the 70th minute to grab the game's only goal.

“It was a game of missed opportunities,” OCU coach Brian Harvey said. “We missed about three or four good chances in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and that was the game there and then. We let them hang around, and they hung around and they defended desperately. They scored a goal and they go out winning the game.”

The Stars will have an opportunity to rebound on Saturday at Stars Field against Mid-America Christian. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
