OCU freshmen featured in 3-1 victory over St. Gregory's

McMahon, Rashica and Bayatfar score for Stars

Ariel Bayatfar increased her shot percentage to .385 on Saturday.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The 20th-ranked Oklahoma City University women continued their march through Sooner Athletic Conference play unscathed. OCU posted a 3-1 victory over St. Gregory's on Saturday.

The Stars (11-2, 6-0) have posted nine consecutive victories, including five shutouts in the last month of play as they march through their conference schedule.

OCU's scoring in the match came in the form of goals from three freshmen. Blerta Rashica, a freshman from Orebro, Sweden, gained three points in the match, scoring a goal and netting an assist. Rashica's goal came in the 4th minute of the match.

Megan McMahon, a freshman from Oklahoma City, booted in a goal in the ninth minute to score the eventual game-winning goal. McMahon is leading all goal-scorers for the Stars, with 10 on the season.

Ariel Bayatfar, a freshman from Ada, Okla., netted a goal in the 69th minute to round out the Stars scoring, with the assist going to Rashica. Bayatfar is leading OCU with a .385 shot percentage, scoring five goals on her 13 shots.

Malin Andersson, a senior from Huskvarna, Sweden, posted an assist for OCU on the McMahon goal. This marks her 12th assist this year. Andersson has a team-high 26 points this season.

OCU outshot the Cavaliers 18-3 in the match, and have outshot their opponents 229-80 through their 13 games. The Stars maintained a 7-2 shot on goal advantage over St. Gregory's in the win.

The Stars next match will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, as the team travels to Oklahoma Christian.
