THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University takes on Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a matchup of top 20-ranked teams.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students. Admission is free for all OCU athletic events to OCU faculty, staff and students with their ID.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU pounded Lubbock Christian (Texas) 94-40 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (8-3, 3-1 SAC) had advantages in points in transition (21-4), bench points (38-18), points in the paint (44-18) and points off turnovers (44-7).
Lauren Gober, a 6-foot-1 freshman from Newcastle, Okla., topped OCU with a season-high 20 points off 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Gober records 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.55 steals a game.
Donica Cosby, a 5-8 junior from Coldwater, Miss., rang up 14 points, six assists and three steals. Cosby has put together 12.7 points, 4.5 assists and 1.50 steals per game.
Laura Duncan, a 5-8 senior from Edmond, Okla., added 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists, raising her averages to 8.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.82 steals. Holly Hardin, a 6-foot senior from Chickasha, Okla., leads OCU in scoring (12.8 points a game), rebounding (8.1) and blocked shots (1.00). Hardin ranks sixth with a 61.2 percent field-goal percentage as the Stars are shooting 48.8 percent as a team to rank third nationally.
The Stars is ranked seventh in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. OCU has been picked to finish second in the conference. The Stars entered this season tied for the most wins of any women's basketball program in the nation over the past nine years.
OCU has a 25-18 overall record against Wayland Baptist. Wayland Baptist knocked off the Stars 82-75 on Feb. 7 in Plainview, Texas. Brett Bates led OCU with 19 points. Wayland snapped OCU's 19-game win streak in the series.
ABOUT THE FLYING QUEENS: Wayland Baptist rallied for an 83-79 overtime victory over Mid-America Christian on Saturday in Oklahoma City. Wayland (8-4, 3-2 SAC) overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half.
Erika Raymond, a 5-11 sophomore, was Wayland's ringleader against Mid-America with 19 points. Raymond averages 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.00 steals. Edite Kresa, a 5-7 senior, and Jessica Walker, a 5-8 senior, each had 14 points Saturday. Megan Coats, a 5-6 sophomore, added 12 points Saturday and leads Wayland Baptist with 13.3 points a game.
Wayland Baptist is ranked 18th nationally. SAC coaches picked Wayland Baptist to finish fifth in the conference before the season.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has posted a stellar 126-25 record in his fifth season at OCU and a 428-144 record overall in his 20th season as a head coach. Edmisson has led the Stars to SAC regular-season championships twice and the SAC Tournament title three times. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA from OCU, Mariam Sy. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Tory Bryant has guided Wayland Baptist to a 45-33 record in his third season with the Queens. Bryant led Lubbock Trinity Christian High School (Texas) to a 96-19 record and two state championships.
