PUEBLO, Colo. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 20-15 loss to Colorado State-Pueblo on Wednesday at Massari Arena.
The Stars, ranked ninth in NAIA wrestling, went to 2-4 in duals. Colorado State-Pueblo rode an early 13-0 lead to the win.
OCU sliced Colorado State-Pueblo's lead to 13-9. Corey Johnson edged Moises Alcala 3-1 in sudden victory at 285 pounds, and Kidd Gomez picked up a win at 125 by injury default for the Stars.
Colorado State-Pueblo followed with wins at 133 and 141. OCU's Will Shelton nipped Levi Jutila 3-2 at 149, then Nik Turner of the Stars beat Louie DeSantis 3-2 in the second sudden-victory period at 157 for the final margin.
Colorado State-Pueblo built a 13-0 advantage using victories at 165, 174, 184 and 197. Tony Chavarria, ranked eighth at 197 in NCAA Division II, knocked off OCU's Jake Mabry 13-11.
The Stars compete next in the Menlo Duals on Jan. 2 in Atherton, Calif.
