OCU women defeat John Brown in SAC semifinals

Malin Andersson recorded her first hat trick of the season on Tuesday against John Brown.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University cruised by No. 1-seeded John Brown (Ark.) 3-0 in the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament Tuesday afternoon.

The Stars (11-6-1) will travel to face Southern Nazarene on Friday in the championship game of the SAC tournament. Game time is still pending.

Malin Andersson led the Stars' offensive attack with her first hat trick of the year. Andersson, a junior from Huskvarna, Sweden, now has 11 goals on the season.

OCU got on the board in the 25th minute when Sarah Leonard connected with Andersson for a goal to make the score 1-0.

The Stars outshot John Brown 4-3 in the first half and held on to the 1-0 lead.

The score remained the same for much of the second half, until Andersson connected for her second goal of the game in the 74th minute to give OCU a 2-0 lead. Josefine Holmgren picked up the assist.

Andersson added her third goal of the match in the 87th minute to send OCU to the conference championship game for the second consecutive year.

Each team finished with nine shots in the match, while OCU held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.

OCU goalkeeper Brittany Tibbs recorded two saves to help the Stars to their seventh shutout of the season.

OCU will try for back-to-back conference tournament championships against Southern Nazarene on Friday. The Stars were defeated by SNU 4-1 last Tuesday in the regular season finale.
