Stars win 7-0 against Wayland Baptist

Ryan Hunter had one shot on Monday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 12 Oklahoma City University got back on the winning track with a 7-0 victory over Wayland Baptist (Texas) Monday afternoon at Stars Field.

The Stars (12-2-1, 5-1 SAC) outshot Wayland Baptist 26-3 in a dominating performance on both offense and defense.

OCU scored first in the 11th minute when Jason Gidney took a feed from Steven Short for the goal. Gidney made it 2-0 in the 25th minute with his second goal of the game.

Alex Gang provided his 14th goal of the season in the 27th minute to make the score 3-0. Stuart Hilton picked up the assist with a good looking cross to Gang, who finished the goal.

The Stars went up 4-0 in the 39th minute with a goal from Hilton. Short recorded the assist.

Gidney added his third goal of the game for a hat trick in the 40th minute when he scored off a feed from Luke Garvey to make the score 5-0 at halftime.

OCU took 18 shots in the first half, eight of which were on goal.

The Stars added goals from Hilton and Gang early in the second half and shut Wayland down with strong defense.

Andy Fitzpatrick finished with two saves and recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

The Stars also have individuals who rank high in the NAIA national statistics with the teams' success this season.

Gang leads the team with 15 goals on the season and ranks in the top 10 nationally, while Short leads the NAIA in assists with 15.

OCU will travel to Oklahoma Baptist Oct. 27 for a 3 p.m. start.
