Stars fall 76-64 in top-10 matchup with OBU

Laura Duncan topped OCU with 17 points Thursday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Baptist prevailed 76-64 over Oklahoma City University in a matchup of top 10-ranked teams in NAIA Division I women's basketball.

The third-ranked Stars went to 16-2, 8-2 and second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Ninth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist moved to 16-2, 9-1 and in first in the SAC.

Laura Duncan, a junior from Edmond, Okla., led OCU with 17 points, hitting three 3-pointers. Holly Hardin added 13 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots, and Chontaye Walter had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Stars.

Chelsea Ledbetter handed out a team-high nine assists for OCU. Jennifer Jupin and Taujhnae Travis led Oklahoma Baptist with 22 points each.

Oklahoma Baptist hit 58.3 percent of its shots from the floor in the second half, 49 percent for the game. OCU hit 38.7 percent from the field.

Duncan completed a 3-point play to build a 30-26 OCU lead with 1:44 remaining in the first. Oklahoma Baptist scored the second half's first eight points for a 12-point OBU swing.

Jessi Donnel hit a free throw to give Oklahoma Baptist its largest lead of the game 69-53 with 2:44 remaining.

The Stars meet St. Gregory's at 6 p.m. Saturday in Shawnee, Okla.
