THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University faces Sooner Athletic Conference foe St. Gregory?s in the second of their home-and-home series this season.
ABOUT THE STARS: OCU prevailed 76-62 over Lubbock Christian (Texas), fourth-ranked in NAIA Division I, Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars are now 18-4, 7-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Romana Vynuchalova, a 6-foot-4 junior from Bratislava, Slovakia, had a team-high 18 points. Vynuchalova hit 6 of 9 from the floor and 6 of 8 free throws. Vynuchalova averaged 16 points and 4.5 rebounds a game last week and won SAC player of the week for her efforts.
Alexandra Kotta, a 5-11 senior from Germantown, Md., added 17 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Kotta leads the Stars with 14.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.91 steals per game. Kotta ranks 16th in the NAIA in steals.
The Stars are ranked 21st in NAIA Division I. OCU is the defending conference champion.
OCU is sixth in the nation in points allowed with 55.2 points per game. OCU leads the overall series with St. Gregory?s 20-1.
ABOUT THE LADY CAVALIERS: St. Gregory?s fell to Wayland Baptist (Texas) 55-52 on Saturday at W.P. Wood Field House. St. Gregory?s went to 4-17, 2-8.
Lindsey Vanderburg missed two 3-point attempts in the final eight seconds for St. Gregory's.
Nkechi Okorie, a 5-10 junior, had 13 points to lead St. Gregory?s. Okorie leads St. Gregory?s with 7.8 points per game.
Vicky Khashivon, a 6-2 senior, averages a team-high 4.7 rebounds a game.
St. Gregory's was picked to finish 10th in the 10-team SAC in the preseason. St. Gregory?s ranks last in the conference in points per game, points allowed per game, scoring margin, free-throw percentage, offensive field-goal percentage and rebound margin.
ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has a 352-126 record in 16 seasons as a head coach. Edmisson took the Stars to the NAIA quarterfinals and a 32-3 record his first season at OCU. Edmisson coached the only player drafted into the WNBA at OCU,
Mariam Sy. He won 192 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Jeff A. Duke has a 13-39 career record as a head coach, including St. Gregory?s 9-22 record in 2005-06. Duke spent three seasons as an assistant at USAO to
Jay Niehues.
