OKLAHOMA CITY ?
Sarah Leonard recorded her first two goals at Oklahoma City University in the Stars? 2-1 victory over John Brown (Ark.) on Wednesday at Stars Field.
Leonard tallied one goal 9:17 into the match, then another at the 24:24 mark. Leonard, a freshman forward from West Yorkshire, England, won a footrace dribbling with the ball before kicking the ball into the net on her second goal.
Haley McIntosh provided the assist each time. The Stars went to 2-1, 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Both teams opened SAC play Wednesday. John Brown fell to 0-5, 0-1.
?She was a bit unlucky not to get a hat trick,? OCU coach
Brian Harvey said.
OCU outshot John Brown 21-13, but the margin was only 12-9 in the second half. In the final 15 minutes of the match, John Brown tried six shots and failed to score. OCU?s
Alycia Allenby recorded four saves on those shots.
?We were fortunate in the second half because we let up a little bit,? Harvey said. ?It?s always good to get a win in the SAC opener.?
OCU faces St. Gregory?s at 1 p.m. Saturday in Shawnee, Okla.
