OKLAHOMA CITY ? Oklahoma City University used a 19-0 run to open the game to bury St. Gregory?s 93-39 on Monday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Mikelle Brown, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., led the Stars with 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field.
Mariam Sy had 14 points, and
Chelsea Ledbetter had 12 points and five assists.
The Stars, third-ranked in NAIA Division I, improved to 23-2, 14-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OCU has won 18 in a row.
While OCU opened a 19-0 advantage, St. Gregory?s went 0-for-4 from the field and turned the ball over seven times, including two shot-clock violations.
?I was really pleased with our defensive effort,? OCU coach
Rob Edmisson said. ?Overall I was pleased. We didn?t take bad shots.
?Obviously starting so well is great, but from a coaching standpoint, you tell your players now you can?t play the score. You got to play every possession like the game is tied. Our kids did a good job keeping focus.?
Fabiana Araujo added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds.
?Faby had one of the best all-around games tonight,? Edmisson said. ?She played good defense. We try to get our kids to guard early in the possession, and she made it hard for the player she was guarding to get the ball.?
The final margin was OCU?s largest lead of the game. The Stars got their lead to 50 on
Haley Workman?s jump shot with 6:52 left in the game. St. Gregory?s had 22 turnovers.
The Stars play USAO at 6 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
