OKLAHOMA CITY ? Oklahoma City University picked up its first Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball win of the season, beating St. Gregory?s 63-38 on Monday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Romana Vynuchalova, a 6-foot-4 junior from Bratislava, Slovakia, led the Stars with 14 points.
Mikelle Brown added 12 points, while
Alexandra Kotta had 11 rebounds.
OCU went to 9-0 on the season. The Stars defeated St. Gregory?s for the 21st consecutive time.
?She played a little more aggressively,? OCU coach
Rob Edmisson said. ?Our post players didn?t get a lot of chances with the ball because of our selfish play. We look a lot of 3s selfishly because it was an easy shot.?
In her Stars debut,
Nikki Wilson, a 6-2 junior from Chicago, had seven points, five rebounds, two assists and a block. She hit only 3 of 11 shots from the field.
?She did nice things,? Edmisson said. ?She?ll be a nice player once she gets a couple of games under her belt. I didn?t expect anything with the understanding that she?ll need time to get comfortable.?
OCU scored a season-low 63 points in the win.
?This was an uninspired effort,? Edmisson said. ?Kids should be excited enough to have the opportunity to play.?
OCU plays next against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at 5 p.m. Oklahoma time on Thursday, Dec. 28 in the Las Vegas NAIA Shootout. The game will be 3 p.m. local time at Sierra Vista High School.
