PLAINVIEW, Texas -- Oklahoma City University continued its hot streak with its 12th consecutive win, a 79-51 decision over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday at the Hutcherson Center.
Mariam Sy, a 6-foot-4 senior from Mali, West Africa, had 20 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks to lead the Stars. Chelsea Ledbetter had 12 points and five assists. Alexandra Kotta had 10 points, sinking three 3-pointers.
OCU, ranked third in NAIA Division I women?s basketball, improved to 17-2, 8-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
?Their game plan was to run the shot clock down,? OCU coach Rob Edmisson said. ?We took defensive chances we don?t normally take. We created some baskets. We did a good job protecting the ball.?
The Stars took advantage of 20 turnovers and scored 18 points off them, while Wayland Baptist scored only eight points off turnovers.
Fabiana Araujo had a team-high three steals as OCU had eight. Paty Silva added 12 points and two steals.
OCU will visit Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
