Fredrickson Fieldhouse Comes Down

The former arena for the Oklahoma City University men?s and women?s basketball team no longer stands, as Fredrickson Fieldhouse was dismantled Tuesday morning, May 17.

Built in the 1950s, Fredrickson Fieldhouse served as the home basketball court for the Stars until Abe Lemons Arena in the Freede Center opened in Jan., 2000.

Until Jan., 2005, the Fieldhouse served as the office area for many of the coaches and athletic administration. It also was utilized for local basketball tournaments, concerts and an athletic practice facility.

Last winter, the roof of the Fieldhouse was evaluated and found to be unstable, and the facility had to be evacuated.

Portions of the floor from the Fieldhouse have been saved and are available for purchase as long as they last. Those interested in purchasing a Fredrickson souvenir may contact OCU Athletics at (405) 208-5309.
