GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Oklahoma City University won its fourth consecutive game with an 88-53 victory over California Baptist in a matchup of top-20 teams Friday in the Holiday Inn Christmas Bash.
OCU, ranked ninth in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 9-2 on the season. No. 20 California Baptist fell to 8-4. The Stars have won five consecutive counting an exhibition win.
Mariam Sy, OCU?s 6-foot-4 senior from Mali, West Africa, recorded 21 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. OCU guard Chelsea Ledbetter added 16 points, six steals and a game-high eight rebounds.
Necy DeVance chipped in 10 points, four rebounds and two blocks, while Mikelle Brown and Paty Silva each scored nine points.
OCU held California Baptist scoreless for 5:36 in the second half from the 14:32 mark until 8:56 left in the game.
During that time, the Stars scored 15 unanswered points. OCU stretched its lead from 48-36 to 63-36. OCU also had a 9-0 run that stretched from late in the first half to early in the second.
The Stars open Sooner Athletic Conference play against St. Gregory?s at 6 p.m. Monday in Shawnee, Okla.
