OKLAHOMA CITY ? Offense was on display this afternoon, as the Oklahoma City University women?s soccer team overcame a 2-2 halftime tie to claim its third-consecutive victory by defeating St. Gregory?s, 5-3, in a non-conference matchup.
Holly DeRousse claimed two goals on the day, as the Stars (4-1-2) outscored the Cavaliers (2-6) 3-1 in the second half. OCU has not lost a game since its season opener, and after starting the year scoreless in the squad?s first two contests, the Stars have outscored their opponents 22-5 in the last five games.
DeRousse put the Stars on the board with a chip shot that flew into the top left corner of the goal, near the ninth minute. SGU responded less than 10 minutes later, as
Kimberly Hawkins shot near OCU?s goal after taking a pass from
Sara Yee.
Amanda Jones collected her ninth goal of the season at the 25th minute, after driving to the box and claiming a lift pass from
Emily Furr who booted the assist from mid-field.
Ashley Wine knotted the game again with a header off a corner kick from
Jessica Sebo, and the first half ended with a 2-2 tie.
The Stars struck quickly in the final period as
Katie Meek netted a pass from
Whitney Ward when the second half was only a minute old.
Jennifer Crawford made it 4-2, after swiping the ball from the Cavs? goalkeeper and drove on into the goal at the 53rd minute.
DeRousse iced the victory with a header off
Whitney Jessee?s corner kick, near the 60th minute.
Sara Sacky added a late score for SGU, taking a shot off the left side of the goal with
Millie Flores assisting on the play.
OCU hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m.
