OCU Women Advance to SAC Final With Third-Straight Shutout

OKLAHOMA CITY ? The Oklahoma City University women?s soccer team defeated John Brown, 3-0, in a semifinal match of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, this afternoon. The Stars now advance to the SAC Championship game, facing the winner of the Oklahoma Christian-Northwestern Oklahoma State game.

Amanda Jones contributed on every scoring situation for OCU, collecting two goals and an assist on the day. Leading the Stars in scoring, Jones has 14 goals and one assist on the season.

OCU also claimed its third consecutive shutout and fourth in the last five contests. Goalkeeper Megan Griffin has eight shutouts on the year.

Whitney Ward put the Stars on the board in the first half, heading the ball into the goal at the 35th minute of the game. Ward connected on Jones? cross pass from the right side and netted the ball from inside the Golden Eagles? box.

The game held a 1-0 score for the majority of the second half. Jones produced two late goals, with her first coming at the 86th minute, as she collected a pass from Emily Furr near midfield and broke to the goal for OCU?s second goal of the game.

The sophomore scored again on a free kick with 11 seconds remaining in the game. This was the third time this season that Jones scored two or more goals in a contest.

The SAC Championship game will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 3. If Oklahoma Christian defeats NWOSU, the Stars will host the title match, but if NWOSU wins, the game will be in Alva, Okla. The game is projected to start at 2 p.m.
