OCU Women Defeat USAO in SAC First Round

OKLAHOMA CITY ? The Oklahoma City University women?s soccer team collected a 1-0 quarterfinal victory against USAO, this afternoon, advancing to semifinal round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.

Whitney Jessee booted a 30-yard free kick, and with the help of 30 mph wind gusts, got a favorable bounce into the goal for the winning score at the 66th minute. This was Jessee?s second goal on the season and her first game-winning kick.

Both the Stars and the Drovers battled the wind throughout the afternoon, which limited shot opportunities. OCU barely won the shot battle over USAO, 4-3.

Stars? goalkeeper Megan Griffin was credited with her seventh shutout on the season. It was OCU?s second consecutive shutout and the squad?s third in four matches.

In the last five games, the Stars are 4-0-1, with a three-game winning streak.

OCU will host a semifinal game on Monday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. As the second seed in the SAC tournament, the Stars will face the second lowest remaining seed.

The championship game of the tournament will be on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
