C.J. Campbell

C.J. Campbell will take over the helm of the men’s wrestling program at Oklahoma City University this year.
Campbell joined the OCU coaching staff in 2014. Since that time, OCU has produced six national champions, 26 all-Americans and a 59-17 dual record.
In 2015-16, the Stars had three all-Americans to finish 13th in the NAIA Championships. OCU won the NAIA Central Qualifying Group Tournament title while going 16-4 in duals.
OCU finished runner-up in the Women’s College Wrestling Association Championships with three national champions and nine all-Americans. The Stars went 16-5 with a runner-up showing in the NWCA National Duals. OCU owns WCWA championships won in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Campbell came to OCU from the University of Jamestown (N.D.), where he led the Jimmies as head men’s wrestling coach for three seasons after spending one season as an assistant in Jamestown, N.D. Campbell mentored two NAIA all-Americans, two qualifying group champions and 16 qualifiers for the NAIA Championships with the Jimmies. Jamestown finished 17th in the 2011 NAIA Championships.
The Jimmies also achieved in the classroom with three NAIA scholar-athlete award winners and a CoSIDA academic all-American during Campbell’s tenure.
Prior to Jamestown, Campbell worked as athletic director, guidance counselor, P.E. teacher and cross country coach at Dodson Public Schools in Dodson, Montana. He led the cross country team to a state runner-up finish.
Campbell’s previous head-coaching experience came at Shelley High School in Shelley, Idaho, where he produced six state qualifiers and three state placers. While at Shelley, Campbell served as strength and conditioning coach for state champion basketball and golf teams.
Campbell has experience guiding Olympic athletes, helping the Chinese train for the 2008 Olympics as strength and conditioning coach for the Guong Dong Institute of Sports in 2007.
As a wrestler, Campbell became a two-time NAIA all-American, national finalist, and regional champion for Lindenwood University (Mo.). He was a two-time NJCAA all-American at Southwestern Oregon Community College. As a prep wrestler, Campbell was a state champion, two-time state finalist, four-time state placer and a two-time district champion.
Campbell also competed at the Regional Olympic Trials in 1999 and at the U.S. Nationals in 2006 and 2007. Campbell saw success in other sports including Mixed Martial Arts fighting with a 3-0 record, and was a top rusher in the Rocky Mountain Football League while playing for the Idaho Falls Mustangs (a semi-pro football team).
Campbell is married (Kimberly). He has a son Clayton (16), daughter Kiesha (21) and granddaughter Maliyah (1).
