Oklahoma City University’s men’s golf program has made history under coach Kyle Blaser. Last season, the Stars won their fifth NAIA national championship in six years, defeating Johnson & Wales (Fla.) by 16 strokes. Blaser tied Dr. Lewis Hilley of Lamar for most national titles for a coach in NAIA history. He was NAIA coach of the year for the fifth time, the most of any coach ever.
In his time at OCU, Blaser has coached three NAIA individual champions, three NAIA national players of the year, 13 all-Americans, three three-time all-Americans, 13 academic all-Americans, six NAIA Region VI players of the year, six Sooner Athletic Conference individual champions and six Sooner Athletic Conference players of the year. OCU has won nine consecutive NAIA Region VI titles and nine Sooner Athletic Conference championships in a row under Blaser’s guidance.
Since arriving at Oklahoma City in December 1997, Blaser has guided the Stars to seven out of eight top-10 finishes in the NAIA championships. The Stars have won 58 tournaments since Blaser began coaching.
Blaser coached at Jenks High School (Okla.) in 1996. In his short term tenure with the Trojans, Jenks won the conference title, regional title and Class 5A state championship. In 1996, he was named Oklahoma Golf Coaches Association Regional Representative.
OCU started its women’s program in 2000-2001, and the Stars immediately became a powerhouse under Blaser’s guidance. OCU finished as NAIA runner-up and captured nine tournament titles, including the NAIA Region VI and Sooner Athletic Conference championships. Two women’s golfers became all-Americans.
Blaser and his wife Krista have sons named Blake (6) and Carson (3).
