Garrett Regan could hardly bear to sit and watch from the bench last year after a knee injury ended his season unexpectedly.

Regan, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Oklahoma City University’s first game of the 2009 season. Now healthy and playing again, Regan has regained the form that helped him earn all-American honors in 2008. Regan is this week’s Super Star of the Week after batting .615 with two home runs and four RBIs.

After being a preseason all-American last season, Regan recorded only one at-bat before the injury.

“It was a long year for sure,” Regan said about last year. “Sitting out and watching the team play – going through their successes and struggles – is a tough thing. It’s difficult because you want to be out there with them, and when they are struggling you want to be a part of it even more.”

After a slow start to the season, Regan has found his groove at the plate of late. Regan is hitting .395 with five home runs, 32 RBIs and is slugging .675. His 15 doubles ranks second on the team, one behind Kirk Walker.

“Over the last couple of weeks, I feel like I am back to the form I was when I left,” Regan said. “I don’t know if I can really call it a learning process of getting back into it because the first month or so I thought I was really struggling. I felt like I was missing a certain thing, and I think it was in my approach. Now after getting the feeling of success again I am getting back to the midseason form.”

Another adjustment for Regan this season has been making the transition from the outfield to first base. It is something that he said hasn’t been much of a problem now that the team is midway through the season.

“In junior college, I played a little bit of first base, and in summer ball I occasionally played there so it wasn’t a huge transition,” Regan said. “Getting back in the groove of taking ground balls and that basic stuff was a little difficult at first, but when the season starts your right back in the swing of things and it isn’t that hard.”
