After a year away from the game sweating on construction sites, Chris Brown chose Oklahoma City University as the place to finish his basketball career.

After playing his junior season at Arkansas State, Brown decided to take a year away from basketball. Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., spent the 2007-08 season working and spending time with his family instead of shining on the basketball court.

Brown is this week’s Super Star of the Week after averaging 21.0 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 56.5 percent from the field in wins over then 11th-ranked Oklahoma Christian and Northwestern Oklahoma State.

“I had one really tough construction job where I had to get up early in the morning and be out in that heat until 5 p.m.,” Brown said about his year off. “I couldn’t really get the full effect from that so I had to let it go. I also had a job working with youth. That was a real enjoyable job. I would probably like to see myself doing something like that again in the near future.”

Brown has led the Stars this season in scoring at 19.8 points per game. He said he has benefited from playing close to home during his senior season because of the support.

“It’s great to look up in the stands and see your family,” Brown said. “It makes you feel good about yourself and gives you a boost out there on the court.”

OCU has gained some momentum in the past week after two road victories, including the win against rival Oklahoma Christian.

“Going into their [Oklahoma Christian] place, we knew it was going to be tough,” Brown said. “Pulling out that win just shows how much we have gotten better and how much we can progress on into the year.”

Brown said he is interested in pursuing further schooling after he graduates from OCU

I kid around a lot and say I don’t like school, but I do like it and I am considering grad school,” he said. “Right now it’s still up in the air.”
