Cameron Ream didn’t wait long to leave an impression on the wrestling mat.

The Oklahoma City University wrestler has already qualified for the NAIA Championships with his third-place finish at 133 pounds at the Lindenwood Open back on Oct. 30.

Ream, a freshman from Wentzville, Mo., also finished runner-up in the Oklahoma City University Open this past weekend, losing to Jordan Oliver of Oklahoma State by fall in 36 seconds.

“It was definitely an eye-opening experience,” Ream said about facing Oliver. “I still have a lot of room to improve and a lot of work that I still need to do. It just shows that it is going to be a fun time.”

Ream is this week’s Super Star of the Week for his efforts in the Oklahoma City University Open. Ream has recorded a 9-2 record in the early part of the season.

Ream said he chose to come to OCU because of the reputation Archie Randall has as a winning coach.

“When I was looking at schools I came across coach Randall, and he won like 20-something state titles as a high school coach, which is unbelievable,” Ream said. “You really can’t pass up that experience and the hard work and dedication that is already in our room to help propel my career forward.”

Now that Ream has qualified for the NAIA Championships, he said his goal is not only to place, but to win the national championship.

“Wrestling is a sport where you have to go in with a winning attitude or you will never win,” Ream said. “This year I honestly think I have a shot at winning.”
