Jason Gidney is back with Oklahoma City University’s men’s soccer team after spending the past three years away from soccer.
Gidney, a junior from Edmond, Okla., played two seasons with OCU from 2003-04 before taking time away from the game the past three seasons.
“It’s just good to be playing again,” Gidney said about this season. “It’s a good group, and we’re playing well right now. I am just happy to contribute.”
Gidney is this week’s Super Star of the Week after he scored five goals and dished out two assists in wins over Hillsdale Baptist and Rogers State. Gidney has six goals and three assists for the No. 14-ranked Stars this season.
“I am very pleased with his performance so far this year,” OCU coach Brian Harvey said. “He’s done well scoring considering he’s been out a long time. He brings a lot to the party for us.”
Gidney said being older than the other players has given him an advantage so far this season.
“It’s a little different. I am six years older than all the kids I am playing against,” he said. “I’m not 18 anymore, I’m not out of high school and I’ve seen a lot more things now.”
