When Elizabeth Hendrix is not in the gym practicing her digs for the Oklahoma City University volleyball team, you will most likely find her studying for nursing classes.
Hendrix, a junior from Edmond, Okla., recently changed her major from biomedical sciences to nursing this year.
“I like to help people, and I love the medical field,” Hendrix said. “It just made sense and it still does. I have been exposed to a lot of different medical careers, and I settled with nursing.”
Hendrix is this week’s Super Star of the Week after filling in at libero and recording 70 digs, 3.89 per set, this past week in five matches for OCU.
Hendrix is considered one the most technically sound passers on the OCU team. It is something that she prides herself on.
“My main joy in volleyball is digging,” she said. “There is nothing sweeter than having someone crank the ball, and you pass it right to the target.”
Getting the right technique is not something that has happened overnight for Hendrix.
“It has taken so much effort,” said Hendrix. “I have probably passed like millions of balls to get there.”
