As a senior, Zoe Barratt has been able to add more accomplishments to her already long list of awards received.

Barratt was named Sooner Athletic Conference tournament Most Valuable Player as well as SAC defensive player of the year. Barratt, a senior from West Yorkshire, England, has also played a significant role in helping Oklahoma City University make it to the NAIA women’s soccer championships.

OCU qualified for the national tournament for the first time since 2001.

“It’s the furthest we have gone in the season since I have been here,” said Barratt. “It is really exciting for me especially since I am a senior.”

Barratt has led the Stars’ defense to 13 shutouts this season.

“I hope I have become a leader on the team and that the new girls can depend on me for that leadership,” Barratt said.

Barratt has always been a defensive player, but she has posted a goal and an assist for the Stars this season.

“I love playing defense. I don’t always tend to stay in my position though sometimes I will run up the field,” said Barratt.

After graduation in the spring Zoe plans to stay at OCU and pursue her master’s degree in kinesiology.

“I would like to stay here because there are more opportunities for women to play soccer after college here,” said Barratt. “It will be a big change after graduation not playing anymore because I have been playing my entire life.”

As the national tournament nears the pressure for the OCU women has grown.

“Obviously our ultimate goal is to win the tournament, but hopefully we can just take it one game at a time and be able to go all the way,” Barratt said.
