Laura Duncan led Oklahoma City University in scoring against Texas Christian in Saturday’s women’s basketball exhibition, showing Duncan will be influential the Stars’ hopes this season.

Duncan had 19 points in the matchup with NCAA Division I TCU, 15 of those points from behind the 3-point line.

“Knowing that we were going up against a team at a higher level, we all had to come out and play hard and as a team,” Duncan said.

As a returning player for the Stars, Duncan, a junior from Edmond, Okla., has become a team leader.

“After being here for a year, you are able to figure out what Coach wants and how our system works,” said Duncan. “After I transitioned into playing OCU basketball, I was able to focus on other areas and skills.”

After an impressive showing against TCU, Duncan has high expectations for herself and her team.

“I loved playing TCU, it was so much fun to be able to play a Division I team,” Duncan said.  “We had a lot of fans come out and support us for that game.”

OCU, which has won the Sooner Athletic Conference women’s title eight of the past nine year, has been picked to finish second this season.

“We definitely should be conference champions,” said Duncan. “I think the game against TCU proved that we can play with and beat anybody.”
